Calendars. Many people have died on that hill.
I remember when Chandler was supposed to be the last word in calendars. Even Mitch Kapoor of Lotus123 fame got involved (https://www.chandlerproject.org/ https://www.chandlerproject.org/).
There's something very Bermuda-triangly about Calendar applications. Why is it that in the year 2021 no one has truly cracked the problem yet?

- LeonB 5y agoI was wondering if someone would mention Chandler and indeed - two mentions. Interesting chapter (blind-alley?) of history, with a lesson in there somewhere.
- mercutio2 5y agoThe Calendar bits of Chandler were just fine, it seemed to me (but I would say that, I wrote a chunk of it). We just didn’t figure out what we wanted to do with Chandler until it was too late. The actual final release had the bones of a pretty great organizational system, albeit mixed with the carcass of half a dozen other things we’d tried.
- paxys 5y agoBecause calendars are a social rather than technical problem. Apart from the very basics like sending and accepting invites (which existing protocols have already solved), there is no way any large enough group of people will agree on a single process for such complex social interactions. This is the same reason why email hasn't been able to evolve in any substantial way in the last 30+ years.
