"Readable code" is VERY important when you have to deliver a working product to a customer. Especially when you're working in a team. To quote Dijkstra: "The competent programmer is fully aware of the limited size of his own skull. He therefore approaches his task with full humility, and avoids clever tricks like the plague." The longer I work in the industry as a part of a team, the more I appreciate this saying.
