I don’t think the general public understands delta is much more likely to put you into the hospital with severe symptoms. The news media are clearly to blame, but aside from hoping they reform themselves and eventually regain some of their squandered credibility (unlikely), the important question is what can we do about that? Maybe not call it COVID. Instead we could say d-COVID or something similar to impress upon the masses that delta COVID is not the same as COVID. There still would be the media credibility problem, but people who get d-COVID would help out by telling their friends and family, “no I got d-COVID, it’s worse.”
