A bunch of years ago, in Alberta, there was an alarm raised because a busload of people were hanging around the mall and all of them were holding their phones up to their faces often and repeatedly. Police were called because it was the height of terrorism panic around the world, and apparently many of the people appeared to be Arab. It ended up to be a group of visually-impaired folks who discovered they could see a whole lot more of the sights if they looked at their screens and let their phone cameras do the distance resolution for them. Pretty ingenious, even if people were suspicious of their activities. Nowadays everybody is staring at their phones all day in public, so it wouldn't seem at all out of place anymore.
