Google Channels Jony Ive in Ad Promoting Pixel 5a Headphone Jack
- defterGoose 5y agoBrilliant dig. I got mine yesterday, after being forced off of my OnePlus 5t by ATT, and realizing most other manufacturers phones are now shiny plastic-cased edge-to-edge-screened crap without one of the most versatile interfaces ever invented. I don't need 50MP of shooting power, or a screen with a big crease in the middle. I need a circular hole made of iron and copper.
- 2Gkashmiri 5y agoCan you dig it. Sukka. Makes me think of booker T from wwe saying that. Nice.
- karmakaze 5y agoI can't speak to how effective the ad will end up being. I can say that it wasn't that good. Obviously poking fun at Apple's presentation style and lack of headphone jack, but it was being sarcastic in that way someone who really wants attention might be. Overall too long and not very funny. On the content side, there was only, it has a headphone jack. There wasn't anything technical like it actually has good technical specs or sound quality, which is why I put up with cords over wireless. A real missed opportunity.
- bofh23 5y agoI’m hoping peer pressure from Google will push Apple to find the “courage” to undo its mistake[1] and restore the headphone jack on new models. [1]: Removing the headphone jack was a mistake because: 1) Every smartphone has built in speakers and a microphone so the components have always been there to support a headphone jack. Restoring it is a wiring change. 2) Removing the jack required another set of components (DAC, ADC, amplifiers) to use wired or wireless headphones. 3) Wired headphones usable with a jackless phone require those components to be embedded in the cable, rendering those headphones useless for other audio devices. 4) Supporting traditional headphones requires an easily misplaced adapter dongle to host those components. 5) Embedding such components in the cable seems like a bad idea because cables tend to wear out before the devices they connect. 4) If the Lightning, micro USB, or USB-C port is used for headphones, it can’t be used to charge or sync at the same time without yet another adapter (or inductive charging, yay more complexity). 5) The headphone jack is the simplest audio connector. Removing it didn’t solve any problems, it just created new ones.
