While I had heard of black communities being displaced by highways, I had no idea how overt, intentional and systematic it was, or how targeted it was at destroying black-owned business districts. I can't imagine spending my life building a business, getting a taste of independence and relative wealth, only to have it ripped away because my home and business were "blight."
