Taliban kill squad hunting down Afghans – using US biometric data
- aalkg 5y agoThere are still thousands of Americans they are hunting too and the Taliban just took control of the airport. The US is leaving en-masse tonight. I'd suspect that we see a lot more graphic violence in the coming days.
- h2odragon 5y agoWe built the tools of a wonderful, modern repressive state; but we din't have the will to use them to their potential. Gee, who would?
- ksaj 5y agoAn open question: Why wasn't the data destroyed before evacuation? I don't think it would take very long to trash a database. My understanding is that the US knew the Taliban would take over in a few months, although it obviously happened much quicker. Nobody thought to safeguard any of the data and equipment (or render it useless, as the case may be)? They had from the time Trump made the agreement to make sure they weren't leaving behind gifts to the Taliban.
- h2odragon 5y ago> It’s just remarkable that contractors removed software and weapons systems from the Afghan army as they left. Remember, U.S. generals constantly talked about the strength of the Afghan forces, but analysts knew that its air force - on which it depended - would fall apart without contractors. The generals probably hadn’t really thought about the logistical problems of what dependence on contracting means. It’s just stunning that NATO forces would be trying to stand up an independent Afghan army, even as NATO contractors disarmed that army due to contracting arrangements. from https://mattstoller.substack.com/p/the-war-in-afghanistan-is-what-happens https://mattstoller.substack.com/p/the-war-in-afghanistan-is... Probably it was someone else's job.
- nl 5y agoIt probably was. I can't find the interview, but there are plenty of stories of groups like this claiming capabilities they don't actually have.
- premek 5y ago"im not doing anything wrong, i have noting to hide"
- nl 5y agoIt's a bit unclear if this is actually happening. Can anyone find the original interview? And why is it supposed to be with some random blogspam "news" site? Note this report did nothing to confirm it at all. It's just reporting a supposed interview and nothing else.
