It sounds like vaccinated US travelers would be exempt from a restriction. It'll also probably vary by EU member state, as it does today.
I wonder if this will incentivize people to get vaccinated or even make vaccinated people feel safer on long haul flights to Europe.
- Proven 5y agoWhy would that make me feel safer when they can get infected just like those who haven't been vaccinated (and haven't had Covid-19)? I haven't checked but the face mask requirement will likely remain because it is like vaccination - "it helps prevent" (but doesn't prevent) infection. That incentivizes me to not consider visiting the EU.
- sschueller 5y agoI don't understand why the EU would accept the literal piece of paper the US gives its vaccinated. Anyone can print that at home, there would need to be some verification and issuance of a digital European certificate. I see Americans getting away showing the CDC card to get into places when Europeans have to show a signed qr code. Most are probably real but I see the possibility for abuse.
- fy20 5y agoI flew to Spain the other day (intra EU). I'm vaccinated but my wife is not, so she did a rapid antigen test the day before. To fly to Spain you need to fill out a form online which generates a QR code, which is then validated when you land. I uploaded the EU-wide certificate which was validated, and out came my code. For my wife I had to manually type in details of the test, it wouldn't let me upload the certificate, but said someone would check it on arrival. When we landed they just scanned the QR codes and sent us on our way... At departure they just asked if we had the QR code. Nobody asked to see her certificate.
