Afghan All-Girls Robotics Team Tells US Woman to Stop Taking Credit for Rescue
- rayiner 5y ago> The Qatari Foreign Ministry, which did help rescue the girls, additionally accused Reneau of playing “white savior” in the girls rescue. Shows how savvy Qatar’s propaganda operation is. They deftly use intersectionality to invert the real power relationship in the discussion. Ordinarily, a fabulously wealthy principality attacking a random woman in Oklahoma would come across as bullying. The real story seems to be that Reneau helped by making the girl’s plight go viral and working a personal connection at the US embassy in Qatar: https://www.wsj.com/articles/oklahoma-woman-to-the-kabul-rescue-afghanistan-robotics-girls-team-allyson-reneau-11629495734 https://www.wsj.com/articles/oklahoma-woman-to-the-kabul-res... (“Mrs. Reneau had met the girls, ages 16 to 18, at a 2019 Humans to Mars summit in Washington while they were on a visit for a robotics competition in the U.S… In Qatar a former roommate of hers now working at the U.S. Embassy stayed up all night to process the paperwork needed to get the girls out. The government of Qatar sent a plane and flew the girls out.”). The Qatari government obviously did the hard work of sending the plane to get the girls. But a sovereign state complaining that some well-meaning lady is taking too much credit for her role in the rescue is extremely petty.
- cf100clunk 5y agoBecause there is a sliding scale of propaganda quality and they're not doing it right? I just don't understand what you're getting at, even after your edits.
- rayiner 5y agoNo, I’m saying they’re very savvy about American culture and know exactly what to say.
- ajay-b 5y agoI wonder if the Qatari government threatened the girls; Make this American woman shut up or else.
