We have some of that in my city, alongside a big freeway (see [1]) and yes, it’s ridiculously expensive. It is great though, and one of the only options given the number of very busy intersections this popular route crosses. But in the inner city, it wouldn’t make any sense. Inside the CBD, they’ve been taking out on-street parking to put in separated bike lanes, and that‘s just as good.
