Useless Use of GNU
- 1vuio0pswjnm7 5y agoI like scripts I write to be usable on both Linux and NetBSD. When using Linux I use cross-compiled copies of NetBSD userland utilities from the toolchain, e.g., sed, grep, awk, hexdump, lex and yacc, because I have this irrational worry about subtle differences/incompatibilities I might accidentally introduce when I write scripts while using Linux. The funny thing is I never have this concern when writing scripts while using NetBSD. I always expect they will work on Linux. I have always thought it would be cool to be able to cross-compile more NetBSD userland utilities as static binaries for use on Linux, besides only those included in the toolchain.
