Reddit takes a teach-the-controversy approach to pandemic and vaccines
- amadeuspagel 5y agoThis headline perfectly embodies a view of the world as a classroom. We've figured out the truth, the goal now is to teach it to the kids, and certainly not to distract them with "controversy".
- Sohcahtoa82 5y ago"Teach the controversy" is just an Enlightened Centrism(tm) way of catering to bad faith actors. You've got one side that's backed by statistics and studies, and another that has decided to take a stance that has killed over 600K Americans just to own the libs. Dissent for the sake of dissent is not virtuous. Automatically rejecting anything the CDC says just because you don't trust the government does not count as thinking for yourself. We've somehow reached some sort of insanity where people think it's reasonable to disagree with facts. We're in a Bizarro World where someone could stand outside in a white-out blizzard and claim it's a nice warm sunny day, and just keep exclaiming "Well that's my opinion and you have to respect it!" Vaccines are safe. Vaccines are effective at significantly reducing infection with the original COVID variant, and are effective at significantly reducing the effects of the Delta variant. At this point, over 90% of people hospitalized with COVID are unvaccinated, and hospitals all over the country are at their limit. Do your part. Yes, YOU might be healthy and could possibly survive a bout of COVID just fine, but think about everyone else. Get vaccinated.
