Hackers are trying to topple Belarus’s dictator, with help from the inside
- scyzoryk_xyz 5y agoMy understanding has been that the BY IT sector already was a large catalyst of the protests last summer. These are very exciting developments. I do wonder though along which lines the support is coming from. There is certainly a strong incentive on the Polish side, and there is a huge number of BY nationals from the IT sector here. But then it’s also not very clear that Lukashenko is as secure on the eastern front as has been projected. The Putin/Lukashenko relationship has gone on for decades and wasn’t always very positive, with Lukashenko being a source of irritation. An anti-Lukashenko pro-Russian turn of events might be much more likely than a pro-West type of revolution. Belarus going towards the West would be a devastating blow to the Russian sphere of influence.
