I know nothing about housing, but I am always perplexed about size of US houses. My sister has 9 room house, and it is considered small! My parents here in northern Europe has house twice as small, and it is more than enough for them. Maybe it is part of the problem. Smaller house obviously is cheaper to build and maintain.
