Hearing "Exclusively on Spotify" on any podcast ad is a sure-fire way to make sure I never listen to an episode. One of the great features of podcasts is the flexibility in listening platform and I'd really rather not switch to Spotify's substandard user experience.
- xnx 5y agoSo true. I wonder if RSS could make a comeback if it were marketed as "podcast for articles".
- soheil 5y agoNo because no popular publisher would stay the moment a $100m exclusive offer is made.
- radicalbyte 5y agoI subscribe to Spotify but I dropped Rogan when he left. I have all my other podcasts in one app, listening history and all. Now I have to drop that because Spotify want to play monopoly? S** that.
- tantalor 5y agoScratching my head what "S**" means
- Fordec 5y agoI assume "Sod", used in more British influenced cultures. Short for sodomy/sodomize. Usually a stand in for "F**" but a bit more cavalier/dismissive than angry.
- adolph 5y agoThat does sound spicier than placing tiles of vegetation.
- Ardon 5y agoSod? Maybe? People say "Sod that" in Britain. I don't know why you'd censor that though.
- emerged 5y agoBecause sod is dirty?
- radicalbyte 5y agoThe verb "Screw", otherwise known as the PG-13 version of the F-word :-) Hacknews truncated the rest of the *s.
- skinnymuch 5y agoWhich app has full listening history? I’ve been looking for that.

- rchaud 5y agoThey're buying up a lot of high-profile independent ones. Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert joined recently, and now the RSS feed is pretty bare.
- throwaway192874 5y ago+1 I actively avoid listening to podcasts on Spotify because I strongly disagree with them trying to take over the one type of content that remains fairly open and not locked in to any particular platform
- samstave 5y agoI agree their UI/UX is utter fucking garbage. I wish YT-DL worked with their audio though...
- sellyme 5y agoYep. Exclusivity deals are a great way to push me, someone who would ordinarily happy pay for content, into piracy. I already have software that can play MP3s. I like it. Stop trying to make me use someone else's.
- garyrichardson 5y agoI listen to a lot of podcasts and cram as much content into a small amount of time as possible. I've also been listening to podcasts since about 2006. It sounds absurd, but I have a "podcast workflow" that centers around Castro (highly recommend it). I'm a long time (since Startup) listener of Gimlet podcasts. Slowly Gimlet podcasts are moving to Spotify exclusives. When that happens, I just stop listening. I'm 100% not interested in using Spotify. In a crowded market it just makes room for something else.
- acoard 5y agoCan you say more about your "podcast workflow" with Castro? I've been using Castro for around a year now and loving it. It reminds me of my favourite Android podcast app, Podcast Addict, with the reams of customization options, but packages it up in an Apple-y design.
