I am partial to simple text files that I edit in vim. I have a simple script that parses my notes (based on tags), puts them in respective files, and creates a new md file for the day. I think it's important to have a space where the threshold for what needs to be written down is low and unstructured. Since vim is great at editing text (compared to writing), I use it as a space to dump my thoughts out and organize them in front of my eyes. Works great for me.
