TBH external displays have always been a problem on MacBooks, at least for me. Starting at issues with sleep/wake, random interruptions to not supporting any daisy-chaining. In extension I had issues with all external peripherals from Apple that I tried. USB Apple Keyboards that stopped working unless you plugged them in with the extension cable (wtf?!), to the atrocity that is the magic mouse, to AirPod Pros getting super confused with multiple devices in proximity.
