Bitcoin’s Energy Usage Isn’t a Problem. Here’s Why
- eesmith 5y agoMy comments yesterday at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28274171 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28274171 can be summarized as: 1) energy use isn't the main issue, pollution is. When will Bitcoin be fossil free? 2) cruise ships are notorious for how much pollution they generate, so that's cherry-picking a very low bar, especially as other given examples are more scalable (more users and less power per user) than Bitcoin. 3) the author switches between "energy" and "electricity" when it's convenient. Using an otherwise unprofitable fossil-fuel power plant to mine Bitcoin isn't a place "where electricity is being underutilized".
