The streets of Philadelphia, Kensington Avenue, What happened today
- SevenSigs 5y agovery sad... is that Fentanyl?
- smabie 5y agofentanyl/heroin
- willcipriano 5y agoI live about an hour from this. Looks like a typical day. I always hear terrible things about the west coast cities on here, I always wondered how they compared to Kensington Ave.
- imglorp 5y agoI think the difference is so many people have an idealized, romantic idea about those west coast cities, they'll eagerly pretend there's no burning human tragedy there. By comparison, nobody has ever romanticized Kensington.
- diogenescynic 5y agoIt's about the same as some of the rougher parts of Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles (Skid Row), and San Francisco (Tenderloin). We have more camps though. It even crosses national borders--Vancouver has similar areas.
- diogenescynic 5y agoReminds me of the Bay Area.
- dusted 5y agoThis is what it looks like when you're doing everything in your power to avoid ideas such as public healthcare and good education. I guess someone would say "well, at least it's not socialism!" [edit] The downvotes on this validates the last sentence.
- ekianjo 5y agoYou should see Cuba and other places like it if you think making everything free works well to raise the levels of living.
- dredmorbius 5y agoCuba achieves far more, on far less, than the US, and does so in the face of a 60+ year economic boycott with what had previously been its largest trading partner.
- mbfg 5y ago"making things free" is not what is causing living in Cuba to be bad.
- dusted 5y agoExcellent point, you totally convinced me that it's better to let everyone fend for themselves than to organize as civilized people and carry some of the weakest up to where they're less of a burden to society.
- 8eye 5y agoextremely poverty and poor education, sad to see it getting this bad. it’s bad in seattle as well.
- qwerty456127 5y agoAlthough I feel kind of sad about the city and the people (ordinary people living there especially) I can't say this is bad from the philosophical point of view, as long as they are happy and non-aggressive. In the end there is absolutely no meaning in life other than being happy. And happiness is just a chemical reaction drug junkies supposedly exploit. They usually live a short life in inner tranquility and die in bliss, don't they? So their life seems logically correct. Perhaps I should have gone their way too but I'm just too addicted to my actual life, love and the room for self-development and exploration the world still offers so drugs can't get me (I gave them a try).
- sul_tasto 5y agoThey aren’t happy. People engage in such self destructive behavior when they are deeply unhappy. Human beings are innately social animals. We need to be first valued by others , before we are capable of valuing ourselves.
- sk5t 5y agoYeah, almost all the poor people in this video are living in a sort of hell. They are not really on the same plane of perceived reality as non-addicted people.
