Can ammonia gas be used? NH3 is non flammable, is far cheaper(with less lift as well) leaks a lot less, but does have low temperature condensation issues = warmer flight times only. In addition, the wind speed in Alaska is often above 60 MPH

- aurizon 5y agothank you.
- robbedpeter 5y agoAmmonia is super toxic - even a controlled descent that lands near people could be terrifyingly dangerous. It's an awesome refrigerant, for example, but is considered too dangerous for general/ non-industrial use. Even in a remote location, you could kill lots of plants and wildlife. Given Alaska's notorious cold winters, you'd need to engineer a heating system- it liquifies at 30 below, which you'd encounter frequently even at low altitude.
