>Featured in a recent newsletter by Andrew Torba, the CEO and co-founder of parent company Gab AI, the video, down to its title, perfectly expresses Gab’s editorial line: a mix of faux expertise (Paul is a former eye surgeon), populist outrage, and selective analytical insight that invariably lands in a place where the elites are lying to you, America has lost its way, and white Christian values are under attack. The video also signifies Torba’s own rising profile as a right-wing, Christian (he signs all of his newsletter posts “Jesus is King”), conservative tech mogul, one who seeks to create his own alternative technological and epistemological universe, free of Facebook-deputized fact-checkers, interventionist government bureaucrats, and censorious liberal tech companies.
There was no link to the video in this article.
Is there proof that Torba said "white Christian values are under attack"? Did he even say "white" in the video at all? I doubt it.
Today, Torba responded to similar characterization by NYT and WaPo: https://news.gab.com/2021/08/23/hit-piece-on-gab-falls-flat-makes-gab-look-based/#more-3043 https://news.gab.com/2021/08/23/hit-piece-on-gab-falls-flat-...
Here we have 3 journalists who together are so desperate to turn public opinion against this man that they must lie and evoke the tired old white supremacist Christian trope.
- DerekL 5y ago> There was no link this video in this article. The Rand Paul was linked to in the first paragraph, “in a new video making the rounds on social media”.
- 1MachineElf 5y agoYes, but that's not the Torba video being described here. The Rand Paul video is actually irrelevant to the story. At best it serves as a bad introductory example (Rand Paul is not a white nationalist) and at worst it's a deflection of the fact that they purposefully don't include a link to the Torba video. Almost as if the clickbaity headline is the only real story they want to tell here.
- lolwuuuuut 5y agoSo, a guy who ticks all the boxes for being a white nationalist in his statements, on the record, needed to have a bunch of journalists conspire to paint him in a bad light? You think it’s more likely that the journalists are making shit up on the record, than this guy just being an asshole? Funny that when you hang out with Nazis, defend Nazis being able to congregate to discuss Nazi things in a safe for Nazis kinda space… that people might assume you’re a Nazi.
- 1MachineElf 5y agoEverything you've mentioned is addressed in Torba's rebuttal: https://tv.gab.com/channel/a/view/breaking-down-the-latest-hit-piece-6123a618228ef8d06df3dedb https://tv.gab.com/channel/a/view/breaking-down-the-latest-h...
