Kinda ironic to see a literal misquote trying to imply that China is fudging numbers. Quick google search for another article get me this: "on Monday, the country reported 21 imported cases and zero locally transmitted symptomatic infections -- the first time no local cases have been recorded since July 16. It also reported 16 asymptomatic cases, all of which were imported too, according to the NHC. China keeps a separate count of symptomatic and asymptomatic cases and does not include asymptomatic carriers of the virus in the official tally of confirmed cases."[0] So here we have a country doing "draconian" mass lockdowns, aggressive contact tracing, aggressive testing, travel bans, and doubling down - unreasonably, according to some opinions - on all that stuff that's supposedly really effective at curbing pandemics, and reporting low number of cases, but apparently that's just "China lying to you" because... the west's opinion is so important, I guess? Or maybe it's just easy to make anonymous inaccurate xenophobic zingers online (perhaps out of jealousy that their own country is not doing as well.) I think I'll take Occam's razor on this one. I suppose it must be lost on some that assessing the situation entails thinking in terms of orders of magnitude, since number of daily cases by definition fluctuates.
