Apropos: Helsinki has never experienced heatwave longer than 5 days (above 25°C). Last summer it was phucking 45 days.
However the bottom temperature of the near-by Baltic Sea is -4°C. I know this because I was hunting for halibut.
There is already a separate system which refrigerates government offices from the Baltic Sea.
I would suggest is to use the system to cool all homes by using the central heating system. All you need is lower is temperature to 15°C in those pipes.
- ajnin 5y agoWhat would be the impact of all that heat on sea life and fishing activities ? Also, as we tend to learn the hard way, natural resources are finite. How big of a heatsink is the bottom of the Baltic sea ? For how long could you cool all of Helsinki's homes per, say 1˚C temperature increase ?
- timonoko 5y agoNo worry. All life in the the deeps is all ready gone. This is because of lack of oxygen and some chemicals, like phosphors mostly from from agriculture.
