This 21st century trend in rebranding is just so disingenuous.
I wish companies would just focus on delivering a good product accompanied by good customer service and stop wasting time and money on rebranding.
Redis say: "We’re dropping “Labs” from our company name and branding, a reflection of who we are and what we deliver"
I don't know about anyone else but my "reflection of who Redis are and what they deliver" is based on substance, not style. For example, if Redis (the software) went to the dogs tomorrow and stopped functioning correctly, then I would not really care what the company calls itself, it wouldn't make me more forgiving of sloppy programming or poor customer service now they are called "Redis" not "Redis Labs".
Redis could be called Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch for all I care as long as the product and customer service was good.
Its like the other recent example, the the money transfer business Transferwise who changed their name to Wise. All a bit pointless. Even the change of name is a poor choice, at least "Transferwise" gave a good hint about what the company did ... what does "Wise" tell me ? I would rather they focus on the product and ways to improve it and maintain quality (which has been dropping recently) rather than pointless rebrands.
- jlokier 5y agoI don't care much about company names in general. But I agree with you about the TransferWise name change to Wise. I opened a business account with them a year ago in order to transfer large payments in foreign currencies, because I remembered they had a positive reputation for that purpose. I think if they had always been called Wise, I just wouldn't have remembered they existed with that specialisation, and would have used Revolut instead as I was familiar with them (but not happy). TransferWise's specialisation in currency transfer and reputation for doing so better than other banks was the only reason I opened the account, though I've since used them for more things. The initial entry through memorability and reputation was crucial.
