It would be easier to take that seriously if other predictable consequences the next generation will have to deal with were given a tiny a fraction of that deference. Like a back breaking national debt, the razing of civil liberties, ever diminishing prospects of a quality of life comparable to their progenitors, etc.
- adrianN 5y agoThe climate, once sufficiently changed, is much, much harder to change back than getting rid of national debt or getting civil liberties back.
- CraigJPerry 5y agoI don’t know why you’re being downvoted. Countries have quashed their debts and Governments have been overthrown with regularity throughout human history. No one has ever prevented a climate change induced event so far.
- rutthenut 5y ago> No one has ever prevented a climate change induced event so far Well apparently the ban on CFCs has had a beneficial effect and the hole in the ozone layer is no longer the issue it had been
- CraigJPerry 5y agoYeah that’s a good one actually. I like it.
- sennight 5y agoWe stopped "global cooling" with very little difficulty in the 70s. Peak oil and overpopulation as well, all we had to do was nothing.
- CraigJPerry 5y agoWe didn’t stop global cooling, we learned that it didn’t exist. We learned that the conjecture was wrong.
- sennight 5y agoThat is the point. Funny how these things tend to call for the same cure. At least for that one we got a movie narrated by Spock, detailing how we were all going to freeze to death.
- CraigJPerry 5y agoPursuing a hypothesis and disproving it is not the same as doing nothing
- sennight 5y agoSo which of those words describes the dissemination of propaganda, "pursuing"? Also, how was the falsifiable anthropological global cooling hypothesis disproven? Careful, you don't want to accidentally disprove global warming or draw comparisons to inconsistently applied standards of proof with that answer.
- adrianN 5y agoTechnically we stopped global cooling by successfully fighting acid rain. Sulphur emissions have a cooling effect. Eventually CO2 would've overtaken that effect anyway.
- adrianN 5y agoAt no point was global cooling a majority prediction among climate scientists. It mostly existed in the popsci press.
- XorNot 5y agoThis is a post where I agree with the forward statement, but almost every cited example issue is highly debatable.
