I know a lot of right-wing types like to point to Sweden as an example. But I'd argue whether what they did was right or wrong the Swedish population was better prepared. Compared to the USA the Swedish socialized medical system would mean that most of their citizens probably started off healthier.
- nivenkos 5y agoAccess to medicine is pretty terrible in Sweden for less critical issues. You have to pay for doctor's visits between $30-60 and often have to wait 4-8 weeks even with the fee. Almost everything requires a prescription compared to other countries, so the delays are problematic as there is no opportunity for self-medication at all. But there's definitely something to be said for the overall health of the population like obesity rates, smoking rates, etc.
