A lot of things I've read on the whole mask/no-mask mandates touch on the bit where the CDC said that vaccinated individuals did not need to wear masks, but the general public decided that meant that no one really needed them anymore and stopped wearing them. None of them follow the results of that decision, though. They just sort of skip over the idea that if nearly everyone stops wearing masks, the few who do are simply getting overpowered when it comes to the statistics. Of course cases keep going up when the vaccinated take their masks off - because many of the vax-hesitant are taking theirs off too! That's like a dam with two cracks temporarily patched to get fixed, but then taking both patches off when only one of the cracks is fixed. The valley is still going to flood, and people are still going to die because of it.
