Referring to an artificial partner has little relation to the linked article. The implication of a gently gaze tracking, choreography imitating robot are much wider in general civilian life (ex replacing human employment) than if some lonely people pay down an auto loan to commit to staying out of the rat race more than they already are. I suspect the likelier singularity involves brain-pc interfacing, given that our bodies are pretty energy compact and sensitive, already.
I read this and thought of last month's discussion [0] around practicing meditation while over-caffeinated because the author focused on the mechanics of the practice and not some of the framework around it. I thought of it as a manipulative tactic, but it sounds like something more likely to be used by committed couples than some narcissist. It is interesting to hear that some christian groups have added it to their toolkit. Of course, there is lots of variance in as big a group as the term christians, so I shouldn't really be that surprised.
