The tying claim eventually got dropped from the case, though, since the govt couldn't prove that the harm to competition outweighed the benefits of having a browser built in to the OS.
- darkwater 5y agoNot in Europe though. We had a WinXP version without IE and a prompt at first install to choose the desired browser
- Y_Y 5y agoI was really excited about the "browser ballot" when that judgement came through. In the end though it appeared on tragically few installs. I never even saw it in the wild. It was a mess for other reasons too, but it felt at the time like it represented a turning tide against anti-competitive behaviour in software.
