Having had first-hand experiences with the disappointments that are endemic to pharma...I wouldn't say this has significantly elevated my hopefulness, but this is definitely a very interesting lead. Most interesting is that the drug (mastitinib) doesn't seem to have been rejected for human use previously due to safety reasons, but rather study design/execution and efficacy reasons (treating mast cell tumors and amyotophic lateral sclerosis, respectively). Apparently the drug is used with success treating mast cell tumors in dogs.
Perhaps this is the next Tamiflu?
