Show HN: Tempus – View and manage YouTube comments with timestamps efficiently
Hi everyone, this is Sarthak Mangla, a high school student from New Delhi, India. Over the past two months, I have been working on Tempus, a Chrome extension that allows you to efficiently manage and view YouTube comments with timestamps. It just went live on Chrome Web Store — install it here: https://bit.ly/3iZejEF
Features:
1. View concentration of comments using opacity of displayed markers.
2. View comments containing a particular timestamp.
3. While playing the video, view comments with timestamps like a live chat replay.
4. Customize the primary colour, block size of the markers.
To use Tempus, just make sure the extension has been installed and enabled in your browser. Then, you can head to any YouTube video, where the extension will collect timestamps from the comments and display them under the video progress bar. The settings, which are accessible through the Tempus icon on the top-right of your browser, allow you to:
1. Configure the block size of the marker
2. Toggle HeatMap markers
3. Toggle the comment live replay
4. Toggle the marker on-click comment view
5. Configure the primary colour for markers

I would love your feedback; please do try it and let me know what you think!
- alfredochips 5y agoHave you thought about using WebExtensions API? That way, you might have it working with Firefox.
- knightron0 5y agoYes! I'm working on getting it available on Firefox right now.
- alfredochips 5y agoGreat! Looking forward to having on Firefox. Looks like an implementation of the new feature Timed on mobile.
- knightron0 5y agoIt wasn't really inspired by it though — I had no clue that something like that even existed on mobile. Just a coincidence :)
- alfredochips 5y agoWhat a coincidence! It doesn’t look like YouTube is having it for desktop, so I really appreciate your having it work :)
