I used to torture Vendors, but then became one
- theamk 5y ago> But whatever the reason, I often find the working relationship that someone on a sales team has with their purchasing counterpart seems to be on a more equal and mutually respected footing. Isn't it expected? When someone from sales talks to vendor, they usually want a sale/purchase. This means that both parties want the conversation to happen. When someone from engineering talks to vendor, this is usually because they want to to get their job done, but vendor's product is blocking them (if the vendor's product is working fine, what is there to talk about?). So one of the parties does not want the conversation, and is only forced there by circumstances (either failing product or management decisions). It is no wonder such conversations are very unequal.
