The other way of looking at it is that the degree used to be an accurate proxy for what actually mattered, like intelligence and field interest, but now with a billion people pursuing it because the money looks good, it’s not going to be an accurate proxy anymore.
- lupire 5y agoThe degree used to be a proxy for being upper class. But when it became available to the lower class due to loans and public schools, the degree lost its utility as a signal.
