In particular, we put more weight on markers of connections to statusful people and institutions.” I wonder if the writer is familiar with the class system? Or noticed the democratisation of connection through technology? From a historical perspective, this part at least seems backwards to me. At best, the “now” is irrelevant and there is either no such trend or it has changed more form than quantity. Made me suspect that the rest is over-thought.
