Can we stop blaming Android for what the carries do with their phones? Please?! I have a Nexus S. I switched it on and it just worked. In fact about 5 minutes after I switched it on, it informed me that there was an upgrade to Android available. "Do you want to upgrade?" Sure. Just like that, over the air. Do that with an iPhone, you need iTunes installed (i.e. you need a computer somewhere). There's no crappy software on it either.
