I think the initial purpose was similar to Patreon: allowing creators a way to monetize. It just became famous due to the pornographic content.
- jazzyjackson 5y agoTo be more specific, it was a direct competitor to Patreon, but patreon banned porn and onlyfans didn’t, thus the market differentiation.
- t-writescode 5y agoPatreon has decidedly 18+ content on it. It even has 18+ interstitial pages to make sure you’re 18+
- jazzyjackson 5y agoFrom Patreon Support: While we allow nudity and for creators to push the boundaries of art, we also have guidelines against funding pornography on patreon. In our community guidelines: We define pornographic material as real people engaging in sexual acts such as masturbation or sexual intercourse on camera.

- t-writescode 5y agoInterstitial pages are pages that pop up when you intend to go somewhere else, but need to complete an approval process, like the “I agree to the EULA” page Edit: an 18+ interstitial would just be one that asks if the person is 18+
