Homosexuality is a crime in some countries. Would Apple allow country level filters that call the police in some countries but not others due to local criminal statutes? What about cannabis use?
- pulse7 5y agoApple follows "local laws" because it wants to make business everywhere in the world... Example: Apple in China.
- dkdbejwi383 5y agoThis system could potentially look for images that offend the CCP, such as the Hong Kong flag, Uighur iconography, pictures of Winnie the Pooh, etc.
- zimpenfish 5y ago> This system could potentially As could PhotoDNA, though, which everyone has been using for a decade to scan cloud photos - but it doesn't seem to have happened.
- intricatedetail 5y agoThere is a difference though. Apple is going to scan your device. It's like having a search without a warrant.
- boublepop 5y agoWhat is the alternative? Not following local law? Apple is just a company, they cannot and do not make their own laws, this should be obvious and not a point of criticism. If you don’t like the laws as they are written in China, then you shouldn’t be lobbying Apple to ignore or break them, you should be lobbying politicians to change them.
