Nobody expects Google and Facebook to care about privacy. Apple was the one running TV ads about how they were the privacy company. If Apple was really planning E2EE they would have announced it at the same time, because it would have been the perfect time to do it. Disarm the critics of E2EE with CP scanning and disarm the critics of CP scanning with E2EE.

- endisneigh 5y agoiCloud photos already has E2EE.
- commoner 5y agoNo, iCloud Photos are not currently end-to-end encrypted. Apple lists all of the items in iCloud that are covered by E2EE in the "End-to-end encrypted data" section after the table, and photos aren't on the list: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202303 https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202303
- EGreg 5y agoApple also ran ads about this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Af0gtsjfy7E https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Af0gtsjfy7E What’s your point? Apple said RISC was better and faster than Intel, until the day they adopted Intel, and then they said the complete opposite. They acted like they invented the Omnibox for Safari and so forth. It’s for marketing.
