Pay people for what they’re worth, not for where they live
- nabla9 5y ago> Whatever happened to “Honest pay for honest work?” It’s a concept that, from CEOs to minimum-wage workers, we could once all agree on. ... Who cares? Has Joe’s work suddenly become less valuable? I don’t think so. No it's not. It's completely wrong concept in market based labor market. Google workers are not even close to minimum wages. Their wages should be determined by supply and demand. If workers in some areas are willing to work for less for the same value, Google should cut their pay.
- nanis 5y agoThe value of something is in the eye of the beholder. In all our transactions, the price paid for something is between the largest amount the buyer is willing to pay and the lowest amount the seller is willing to accept. When people move to a cheaper area, the lowest pay that will give them the exact same happiness level as before the move becomes lower. This presents a new bargaining opportunity. Since the bargaining opportunity was not triggered by the worker becoming more valuable to the company but by the worker choosing to limit their opportunities, it is unsurprising that a new round of bargaining may result in the worker being paid less.
