I don't get it. X is time, Y is progress towards some goal. What's the second line? The threshold at which the goal is achieved?

    I see. When would the low slope ever seem attractive though? When its Y starts out higher?

      Yep. We all start from different starting positions. That makes a big difference early on (what school did this person go to? what have they already accomplished?) and less later on
