And what does this alternative look like? I'm unconvinced. Duct tape visually shows that someone was being so bad they needed to be restrained. I'd argue this is great optics: we care about passengers. And people who get duct taped are visibly restrained with no decorum. They are easily identified as having done something unacceptable and stupid.
