OP here. I agree. I'm a mathematician, and like most mathematicians I find discussions of foundations actually kind of tedious (although obviously a proof that Peano arithmetic was inconsistent would be a big deal). Also only a handful of HN readers have anything at all to gain from the technical discussion here. What is of interest to the HN readership is the sociology of mathematics on display. Hence the original title.
