In my naive ignorance, I can't see how you 'retrieve' more digits past the number of decimal places supported by whatever device you're calculating on.
- Someone 5y agoThe same way humans can add, multiply, etc. arbitrary-sized numbers armed only with addition and multiplication tables for single-digit numbers and the knowledge that multiplication by ten can be done by appending a zero. (Numbers typically are in binary and multiplication uses more advanced algorithms than the ones taught in primary school, but those are implementation details) See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbitrary-precision_arithmetic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbitrary-precision_arithmetic.
