Ask HN: Did you get the 'Did you mean...' Chrome 'warning'?
- readonthegoapp 5y agoI went to 'theunion.com', the local newspaper for Grass Valley/Nevada City (California), and Chrome popped up this box saying, 'Did you mean theonion.com?'. Chrome was literally trying to move me to a fake news site. And, there was no way to say, 'No'.
- nathanaldensr 5y agoDo you have a screenshot? I tried this in the current version of Chrome in both Incognito mode and normal mode and didn't see any prompts.
- readonthegoapp 5y agono screenshots I took screenshots and sent them to folks via Signal a couple different times, but I can't reproduce anymore. I don't save the screenshots anywhere else. :-/ I don't know if it's a big deal or not, but it's definitely...interesting. I'm guessing the chrome/url algo goes something like: if (intended_url_google_juice > 100) go to it else if url is one char diff from high-google-juice-url suggest the site with the real google juice else: go to the orig typo/phishing/small news site would be better if there was a 'No' button in addition to the default/only 'Yes' button.
