  “The DoD clarified that it was either a bomb blast or a combination of natural phenomena, such as lightning, a meteor, or a glint from the Sun.” I guess that is a kind of clarification, right? I find the idea of simply not knowing¹ forty years later really quite disturbing. ¹ Trusting that explanation is accurate

Note to self: stop messing with telescopes and satellites, other people already noticed it. (The strongest area of the anomaly is right over my homeland.) Jokes apart. Given the geomagnetic field sometimes "flip" over, what would happen with the anomaly? Would it accordingly flip to the sea between the Philippines and Japan?

  Curiously, the [Large low-shear-velocity provinces](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_low-shear-velocity_provinces https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_low-shear-velocity_provi...) (what I think you're referring to) are actually on the African and Pacific rather than where the South Atlantic Anomaly falls.
