What We, the Taliban, Want (2020)
- cf100clunk 5y agoGiven the vast array of divergent takes on the Abrahamic religions, the Taliban are simply another, but their particular brand strikes a sore-spot for the West that is out of proportion to their significance as a tribal group in an historically troubled place. The words of this NYT piece seem full of nobility, yet fail to address that the desires and norms of Taliban society are quite orthogonal to the Western way of life. Such tension will endure, and once again will erupt. Western concepts of justice and human rights will not bend to those of the Taliban, so undercurrents of punitive reaction will continue towards them.
