What makes it odd, exactly? They're addressing the problem of misinformation perpetuated by government authorities which harms the populace at large by reinforcing stigmas associated with drugs.
- slater 5y agoIt just seems a bit "listen, fentanyl isn't ALLLLL bad", mixed with "those wily cops trying to get overtime pay!"
- netizen-936824 5y agoThe truth is that the danger from these compounds is far overblown by the government and media, the article is simply pointing out that the police are being disingenuous in their reporting to stoke fear. Having a public fear these substances does cause politicians to give police more funding to "fight" these substances, although they certainly haven't been winning because the entire drug war machine is flawed and causes more harm than good, such as perpetuating stigma which reinforces addiction and addictive behaviors. https://www.drugabuse.gov/about-nida/noras-blog/2020/04/addressing-stigma-surrounds-addiction https://www.drugabuse.gov/about-nida/noras-blog/2020/04/addr... https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/10/nyregion/Carl-Hart-drugs.html https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/10/nyregion/Carl-Hart-drugs....
