Same reason Android, iOS and OSX require it: vertical control over the platform.

- philipswood 5y agoIt isn't (*much). How is locking your coffee pod machine to only use your brand pods, or annoying a printer user to only buy your "genuine" cartridges to her advantage? (*) There is a mild degree of quality control at play, but honestly not much.
