I always pictured Australians as rugged and scrappy, punching sharks, "Chuck Norris, never heard of her", not taking any crap. It's terrifying to see them turn into China overnight like this. I would expect if most governments started treating their citizens this way there would be international calls to help the people, but we just sit by and let a western country go full authoritarian
