Opposite for my wife and I.
Texting removes all the negative emotion from our voices and lets us stay focused on the important words. Because it takes effort to type, way more than speaking, we are more cautious and selective, only using words that are necessary. Also, we each have time to think about our responses, since we don't expect immediate replies. That tends to lead to more thoughtful responses, rather than reactionary.
In a way, I think texting has brought us closer to a more Native American way of communicating, where long silences between pensive responses is looked positively upon.
